A woman went into labor while riding in a yellow taxi Thursday night — and gave birth to a healthy baby boy thanks to three quick-thinking Port Authority cops who helped deliver the child.
Bronx resident Alevtina Antoncik-Narcisse’s cab was near the Holland Tunnel in Tribeca when she went into labor at about 11:30 p.m., PA officials said.
Officer Pasquale Carpentiere was on a routine traffic assignment near the Husdon River crossing when the cabby flagged him down for help.
Carpentiere climbed into the back seat to tend to Antoncik-Narcisse, 38, and called for paramedics, but little Alex just couldn’t wait.
The 7 ½ pound newborn slid right into Carpentiere’s arms as fellow officers Jorge Negron and Agostinho Matias arrived on the scene.
Matias, a nurse, helped to stabilize Antoncik-Narcisse until EMTs arrived and rushed the mother and child to Bellevue Hospital Center, where both were resting comfortably.
Antoncik-Narcisse’s sister, Olga, said she was “ecstatic” to hear about the birth of her nephew just before getting on a flight to New York to meet the little man, who she says is named after the women’s grandfather.
“It’s like something out of a movie,” she said by phone from Miami International Airport.
And Atoncik-Narcisse wasn’t the only new mom to give birth on a city street this week. Brooklyn court officer Kathleen Armstrong, 31, went into labor Friday afternoon while at her job.
Her husband, David, a court officer in Manhattan, raced over to bring her to the Long Island hospital where they had planned to have the baby.
But they hit rush-hour traffic on the Belt Parkway, and David pulled over and called for an ambulance.
“We thought we could beat the traffic, but we were dead wrong,” the proud pop said.
Kathleen gave birth to little Adelaide Elizabeth in the back of the ambulance.
“The side of the road is not exactly the place we had in mind,” David said Friday from his wife’s bedside at Brookdale Hospital.
