Judge rejects settlement between Fertilizer tycoon, ex-wife

A Manhattan judge overseeing a Kazakh fertilizer tycoon’s $100 million civil lawsuit against his ex-wife is refusing to accept a settlement the duo allegedly hatched while the ex was being held in her home country.

“I feel there must be some undue pressure,” Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Eileen Bransten told attorneys for Bolat Nazarbayev and Maria Nazarbayeva during a conference on Tuesday.

Bolat’s brother is the president of Kazakhstan.

Maira was arrested by customs officials and her passport was seized after she traveled to the Central Asian country last month.
