The rumor mill has been swirling for months about what Apple will announce at their September 10th event, but the latest gossip is that the tech giant will add a gold iPhone to their smartphone roster.

The details of the new color scheme comes from TechCrunch columnist MG Siegler who says that multiple sources have confirmed the existence of the golden iPhone.

The new color is expected to be one of three colors that Apple will offer for its newest iPhone — rumored to be called the “iPhone 5S” — and will be the first time The current iPhone 5 comes in white and matte black.

While tech bloggers have scoffed at the idea of a golden iPhone because it seems out of step with Apple’s lauded austere designs, the rumors have persisted because numerous images of purported golden iPhone parts have hit the web.

The images show everything from iPhone bodies to SIM card slots and screws all in a golden champagne color, a picture of which was mocked up by iMore.com.

Along with the iPhone 5S, Apple is also expected to launch a budget line of iPhones made out of plastic at the September 10th event which will be called the “iPhoneC” with the “C” standing for “color.”

The new, cheaper iPhone is expected to come in five different colors which will be similar to the one’s Apple already offers on their iPod touch.
