Off-duty MTA driver busted for assault against cabbie in Brooklyn

An off-duty MTA bus driver was arrested for stiffing a cabby and then beating him up, authorities said Sunday.

MTA employee Jamel Allen, 35, hailed the livery hack near the corner of Riverdale and Rockaway avenues in Brownsville, Brooklyn, at around 3:30 a.m. and asked to be driven to an unspecified location, cops said.

But after he had traveled about 15 blocks, an argument erupted inside the car, and Allen attempted to get out near Sutter and Howard avenues and refused to pay, sources said.

When the driver tried to stop him, Allen slugged the cabby, causing him to suffer a swollen lip and a bloody nose, cops said.

Allen, who lives in Staten Island, was arrested a short time later and charged with theft of services and assault.
