NYC’s first lady shows up late to first speech

Being late must be a de Blasio family trait.

First Lady Chirlane McCray was an hour late Wednesday to her first major postinaugural speaking engagement.

McCray was slated to participate in an interactive town-hall forum at Brooklyn’s Christian Cultural Center focusing on the impact of immigration policies on African-Americans.

Instead, she opened the event and spoke for only 10 minutes before leaving.

Mayor de Blasio has been so chronically late since taking office that fake Twitter accounts were created to chronicle his tardiness.

McCray’s speech was preceded by a video of the de Blasio kids, Dante and Chiara, talking about being third-generation Americans; McCray’s grandparents were from Barbados.

“Those are some cute kids up there, right?” Chirlane asked the crowd of a few hundred people after the video.

Last week the Mayor’s Office announced that a $170,000-a-year chief of staff had been hired for McCray, and sources say she’s eyeing her own office in City Hall.
