Weird But True

Woman tries to distract ticket-issuing cop with fake 911 call

ROSWELL, N.M. — Authorities say a New Mexico woman tried to get out of a possible traffic ticket by placing a fake 911 call to try to get dispatch to call police away.

KRQE-TV reports that Roswell police say 22-year-old Savana Jimenez called 911 Sunday morning hoping the officer who pulled her and her friends over would get dispatched to a fake crime she reported.

According to dispatch records, she called 911 to report seeing a man with a gun near a convenience store. Authorities say Jimenez called while the officer was checking her driver’s information.

Police say Jimenez later admitted making the entire story up so the officer would rush to the fake scene.

Jimenez was arrested and charged with obstruction.

It was not known if she had an attorney.
