Is McQueen headed to HBO?

‘12 Years a Slave” director Steve McQueen could be making TV his next stop.

The British director — whose “12 Years a Slave” is generating substantial Oscar buzz — is developing a drama at HBO about an African-American man with a mysterious past who enters New York’s high society, according to reports.

McQueen would direct and co-write the project with Matthew Michael Carnahan (“World War Z”), with hip hop mogul Russell Simmons, Iain Canning and Emile Sherman (“The King’s Speech”) on board as executive producers.

It would be the first TV series for McQueen, whose other film credits include “Hunger” and the 2011 Michael Fassbender drama “Shame.”
