Ready-to-Mayer: Net queen poses in Vogue

Marissa Mayer is giving new meaning to geek chic.

The Yahoo! chief executive is featured in Vogue’s September book, wearing a form-fitting sheath dress and ankle-strap pumps while striking a sexy pose on a chaise longue.

The issue, with cover girl Jennifer Lawrence, hit newsstands yesterday, but the photo of Mayer won’t appear in other print publications until Monday.

The photo shined the spotlight on the 37-year-old Mayer and kicked off a debate about how glam is too glam for a CEO.

“Seriously. Where [are] my glamour shots of Sergey Brin, Tim Cook, Jeff Bezos and Steve Ballmer?” Jamelle Bouie of The Daily Beast tweeted.

Others were just plain struck by how good Mayer looked.

“Marissa Mayer is so glammed up,” Alyson Shontell of Business Insider wrote.

Quartz, the digital business publication, saw controversy elsewhere, asking if Mayer deserved all the praise the article heaps on her.

Vogue writer Jacob Weisberg noted that the company’s stock is up 60 percent since Mayer came on board a year ago, but the article may have underestimated how much of the rise was due to factors beyond her control.

A stake in the high-flying Chinese e-commerce company Alibaba Group, which Yahoo! bought in 2005, has been the biggest driver of the surge, analysts say.

The article also delved into Mayer’s personality (her shyness borders on a social disorder), her newborn (still saying he is an “easy baby”) and her very spare time (she plays Candy Crush Saga on her phone).
