After having had a few days to stew over it, Giants defensive tackle Cullen Jenkins on Thursday playfully unloaded on Cowboys owner Jerry Jones for accusing him of faking an injury in Sunday night’s Dallas win over the Giants.
“I don’t know what he saw,’’ Jenkins said. “Maybe he needs to get his son-in-law to clean his glasses so he can see better. I got a stinger in my shoulder (on the play). If he goes back and sees the play (on tape) I was clearly down before the whistle.
“I think he just wanted something to say. At his age, I’m just glad he still has a sense of humor. They got the win so I guess they got the last laugh.’’
Jones mocked the Giants to Dallas reporters after the game, accusing them of feigning injuries, and that has incited the Giants, who have flatly denied doing any such thing.
“It was so obvious it was funny,’’ Jones said after the game. “It wasn’t humorous, because we really wanted the advantage and knew we could get it if we could get the ball snapped.”
The most obvious example Jones referred to came with 4:44 remaining in the first half. The Cowboys had the ball at the Giants’ 48-yard line after a 5-yard pass from Tony Romo to Jason Witten when Jenkins fell to the ground. After a short visit with a team trainer, Jenkins jogged off the field and returned to the game later. Giants linebacker Dan Connor also left the game with a stinger.
On Monday, Giants head coach Tom Coughlin said Jones’ accusations were “absolutely not true,” adding, “Both of those players were injured. Connor never returned to the game. Cullen was in a position where he needed to regroup. That really wasn’t orchestrated at all.”
