COPS HUNT ARTIST’S KILLER

Police are questioning Brooklyn neighbors of aspiring rock musician and artist Jerry Bacasa in hopes of turning up information that will lead them to the two men who killed him.

Bacasa, 25, was shot to death at about 3:30 a.m. Thursday as he returned to the carriage house on St. Felix Street in Fort Greene that he shared with his uncle, Walter Durkatz.

Police believe Bacasa was attacked by two men who had followed him home after he left his job as a bartender at Joe’s Pub, at the Public Theater on Lafayette Street in Manhattan.

His uncle, who was awakened by the gunfire, found him in the vestibule of their house with a bullet wound in the chest.

Although Bacasa’s wallet was untouched, police believe his attackers intended to rob him, but panicked and fled after he was shot.

They’re hoping neighbors saw or heard something that could help in tracking down the killers.

Yesterday, friends put candles, flowers and photos around a makeshift memorial to Bacasa in front of Joe’s Pub.

They hugged and consoled one another, and told stories about the Pittsburgh-born “rock ‘n’ roll dandy” who “loved New York, loved the energy,” one mourner said.
