Snee, Baas, Webster looking iffy for Giants

If the Giants are going to get a cavalry charge of reinforcements, it had better come on Friday, because no help arrived on Thursday for what is unquestionably a hurting team.

None of the players who were unable to practice on Wednesday made it back to the field. For the second straight day, right guard Chris Snee and center David Baas were nowhere to be seen as they continue to rehab inside the team’s facility. This is not a good sign for Snee, who is dealing with a new hip issue, or Baas, who has a lingering neck problem.

It is highly likely neither will be able to play against the Chiefs in Kansas City, which could force Jim Cordle (no NFL starts) in at center and James Brewer (one NFL start) in at right guard.

David Diehl was working again, but it might be too much to ask for him to step in and start after he missed the last three preseason games and the first three regular-season games following thumb surgery. Diehl could be activated and used as an extra blocker on the line in jumbo packages.

It also was not encouraging that cornerback Corey Webster spent the start of practice riding a stationary bicycle, along with linebacker Jacquian Williams. Webster (hip flexor) did not play last week in Carolina, and it looks as if he will miss this game as well. Williams (knee) is also likely to sit. Veteran Aaron Ross started for Webster against the Panthers.

Tight end Adrien Robinson (foot) sat out, meaning the Giants will have to use Larry Donnell and Bear Pascoe to help fortify the pass protection against the Chiefs, who lead the league with 15 sacks. The Giants allowed seven sacks last week. After he was limited on Wednesday, cornerback Terrell Thomas (knee) sat out.

Linebacker Spencer Paysinger (hip) and safety Cooper Taylor (shoulder) were practicing.
