MLB commissioner Selig to retire after 2014 season

MLB commissioner Bud Selig will announce Thursday afternoon that he will retire after the 2014 season, The Post has learned.

The 79-year-old Selig officially has been commissioner since 1998, but essentially began serving in the role in 1992. At that point, MLB did not have a commissioner and Selig’s title was Chairman of the Executive Council.

Under Selig, MLB endured the Steroid Era, but also adopted PED testing. The sport also instituted interleague play, expanded the postseason (including the wild card) and implemented instant replay (with even more replay coming next season).
