Yanks aim to play in Panama to honor Mo

The Yankees are considering playing an exhibition game in Panama to honor legendary closer Mariano Rivera in his native country, The Post has learned.

Rivera is said to be thrilled at the possibility of his pinstriped pals taking the field in Panama in early spring, just months after his retirement, sources said. It’s unclear if he’ll take the mound himself.

Officials from the Yankees, Major League Baseball, the MLB players’ union and the Panamanian government are involved in delicate discussions to pull off the unusual tribute, sources said.

“It’s not a done deal, but everyone wants it to happen,” a source said.  “It would be a powerful tribute to Mariano in his home country. Can you imagine the reaction in Panama?”

Rivera himself has been personally briefed on the deliberations.

The Yankees declined comment.

The team on Sunday honored Rivera at Yankee Stadium and gave out bobbleheads of the legendary closer Tuesday night.

Rivera — a shoo-in first-ballot Hall of Famer — was instrumental in the Yankees winning five World Series championships from 1996-2009. He’s one of the greatest athletes to hail from Panama.
