Six hurt in Bronx blaze

Six residents and six firefighters were injured Thursday morning in a four-alarm building blaze in The Bronx that raged for almost three hours as high winds from the snowstorm hampered efforts to bring the flames under control.

Those hurt included two children, with cops saying four of the residents were hospitalized in serious or critical condition.

One resident’s injuries were described as non-life-threatening.

The six FDNY personnel all suffered smoke inhalation, officials said.

Nearly 170 firefighters battled the blaze, which erupted at around 9:30 a.m. in the Throggs Neck section.

Sources said the flames started apparently inside a faulty air conditioner on the ground floor of a multi-family house on Dean Avenue near Barkley Avenue.

Three dogs also lived in the building, but their fates were unknown, police said.
