Did pizza end the government shutdown?

It’s the late night fix favored by stoners and university students around the world.

And now pizza can claim to be the food responsible for ending the US government shutdown and averting a global economic disaster.

Senate leaders announced a bipartisan deal to reopen the US government and raise the debt ceiling overnight.

But only after industrial sized quantities of pizza were wheeled in for late night negotiations.

At least 20 huge boxes were delivered by a congressional aide to the office of Speaker John Boenher, along with bags stuffed full of sides.

It came from local outlet Pizza Boli’s who has proudly laid claim to helping avert disaster.

The only question that remains is what flavors helped create the mood for compromise?

We’re tipping a hardliner like Ted Cruz went for nothing less than the full “meatster” (pepperoni, ground beef, ham, Italian sausage, salami, Canadian bacon, and extra cheese) while a more moderate Republican like John McCain might have opted for crab or cheese steak.

All may have discreetly avoided Greek given the financial situation in that particular country.

The solution will raise the debt ceiling and reopen the government in a short-term fix..

Republicans have agreed to cooperate for now but swore they weren’t giving up the fight.

“Our drive to stop the train wreck that is the president’s health care law will continue,” said Republican speaker of the House John Boehner.

The US stock market soared on the news, with the Dow Jones gaining 200 points in early trade.
