Cops from Manhattan to Montauk are searching for a costumed bank bandit who favors headgear ranging from ski mask to fisherman’s floppy hat to an Indiana Jones-style fedora.
The chubby thug has robbed or attempted to rob at least 13 banks on Long Island, Queens and Brooklyn over the past two years. He has also dressed as a rabbi and once sported a turban.
He likes to strike in rainy weather, passes threatening notes and in four cases has displayed bogus bombs.
Nassau County Detective Sgt. John Giambrone said that last Friday, the crook hit a New Hyde Park bank, where he wore a fedora, Indiana Jones’ headgear of choice. He may also have been wearing a fake beard.
The master of disguise couldn’t use the cash he stole because an exploding dye pack ruined it. He also hit a bank in Elmont and again in New Hyde Park on Monday.
