WEEKEND WAS GOOD FOR UCONN

Ever since Marcus Allen rushed for 2,342 yards at Southern Cal and slipped to 10th in the 1982 NFL Draft because he didn’t test off the charts for NFL talent evaluators, we’ve always remember to put a primer on what a guy did on the field.

From a college viewpoint, here’s a look at this weekend’s draft:

The days of the Connecticut Huskies being known as overachievers is over. Not only did the UConn have its first first-round pick in Donald Brown, who went to the Colts at 27, but three Huskies went in the second round, giving UConn four picks in the top 64.

“We had to earn our stripes, and I think we did,” UConn coach Randy Edsall told The Post. “Now the bar is set higher.”

After Rutgers also made history when WR Kenny Britt was taken by the Titans in the first round, it wasn’t until the sixth round that another Scarlet Knight was chosen. QB Mike Teel went to Seattle, where he has a great chance to make the roster.

Behind starter Matt Hasselbeck is Seneca Wallace and second-year man Jeff Rowe. Hasselbeck will turn 34 this season. Wallace has a seven-year rating of 83.4 and Rowe is unproven.

“I’m just going to go out there and soak up everything I can,” Teel told The Post. “I’m going to work as hard as I can and make it as tough as I can for them not to keep me.”

First-round winner: Arizona. With an aging Edgerrin James and second-year man Tim Hightower, who wore down, Ohio State’s Chris “Beanie” Wells, if he stays healthy and wants to be a star, has the tools and the chance.

First-round loser: Oakland. Darrius Heyward-Bey of Maryland can run a 4.3 40 — great. He’s inconsistent, and the Raiders could have had Michael Crabtree or Jeremy Maclin at No. 7.

Second-round stars: Ohio State WR Brian Robiskie stays in state with Cleveland, where he could flourish if the Browns settle on a QB.

Miami must really love that Wildcat formation, and with West Virginia QB Pat White the Dolphins have the perfect player to run it.

The Bills got a hard-worker with a mean streak in Oregon State G Andy Levitre. The Ravens found another perfect fit for their 3-4 in Utah DE/OLB Paul “Freddie” Kruger.

Best values: Texans – C Antoine Caldwell, Alabama, (third round). Titans — ILB Gerald McRath, Southern Miss (fourth). Steelers — DB Joe Burnett, Central Fla. (fifth). Cowboys — OLB Stephen Hodge, TCU (sixth). Steelers – C A.Q. Shipley, Penn State (seventh).
