ROCKING OUT IN TIMES BARE

There are 8 million stories in the naked city, and two Brooklyn rockers brought theirs to the heart of it all — Times Square.

Matt Johnson, 23, and Kim Schifino, 26 — the two-person indie band Matt & Kim — are the talk of the music-video world after debuting their clothes-shedding “Lessons Learned.”

In the three-minute, 38-second production, the boyfriend and girlfriend stroll down Seventh Avenue near Times Square, taking off layers of clothes with each step.

While they are eventually totally nude, the video blurs their genitalia and Schifino’s breasts.

The stripping duo grabbed moderate attention of passers-by before getting nabbed by what appear to be NYPD officers.

Johnson was thrown to the ground, and Schifino, wearing only socks, skipped away. She was rejoined by Johnson seconds later.

As soon as Johnson was jumped, the crew flashed its film permit and the cops relented, co-director Taylor Cohen said.

“He jumped right up, and [the cops] let him finish,” Cohen said.

“They were concerned we were making a scene and stopping foot traffic. As long as we kept moving and didn’t create a bottleneck, that’s all they cared about.”

An NYPD spokesman declined comment, saying brass had yet to see the video.

A representative for the Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting, which issues permits for such shoots, did not immediately return a call for comment.

Cohen admitted he wasn’t completely truthful in his application.

“I wrote that they would be inappropriately dressed for the season,” Cohen said. The video, he said, was shot on a cold February weekend.

Matt & Kim representatives were grateful for the cops’ intervention.

“We didn’t expect the police to jump in, but it made for a fantastic sizzle,” manager Kevin Patrick said.

The video debuted Tuesday and had been viewed on MTV’s Web site more than 19,000 times as of yesterday evening.
