EVEN MARIAH CAN’T MAKE DULL INDIE GLITTER

TWO brothers slowly make their way from New Mexico back to their home in “Tennessee” in a watery indie drama.

One of the two brothers (Adam Rothenberg, Ethan Peck) has terminal leukemia, and they’re supposed to be trying to track down their dad to ask him if he’ll consent to a bone marrow transplant. Despite this, the guys don’t seem in much of a hurry as they drift from roadhouse to motel to roadhouse.

Also: Haven’t they heard of the telephone?

They pick up a waitress (Mariah Carey) on the run from her abusive husband, a Texas cop. But after some low-intensity chasing the movie gets bored with this subplot and simply drops it.

Meanwhile, the brothers reminisce about getting beaten up by Daddy and about girls and camping trips from the past. A twist ending does nothing to make the previous 85 minutes interesting.

Running time: 90 minutes. Rated: R (profanity). At the Sunshine, Houston Street, off First Avenue.
