Mental fitness of psychiatrist ‘slasher’ to be reviewed

The issue of whether a paranoid schizophrenic who admitted to killing a well-like psychiatrist with a meat cleaver can stand trial is under scrutiny yet again.

The mental fitness of David Tarloff, who used a cleaver and a knife to slash Kathryn Faughey to death in 2008 in her Upper East Side office, will be argued on Jan. 16, a Manhattan Supreme Court judge ruled today, after a court psychiatrist deemed him unfit to stand trial in November.

Tarloff faces a retrial after a deadlocked jury couldn’t come to a decision last April.

The sicko, who also nearly killed Faughey’s colleague, Dr. Kent Shinbach, has been found fit for trial three previous times.
