ABC cancels Lambert’s ‘GMA’ performance, CBS picks it up

Adam Lambert’s kinky moves may be too hot to handle for ABC, but they’re just right for CBS.

CBS has announced that “The Early Show” will play host to the “American Idol” runner-up tomorrow morning. He’ll perform live and discuss the controversy surrounding his American Music Awards appearance last Sunday night.

ABC GETS COMPLAINTS FOR LAMBERT’S PERFORMANCE

The announcement comes hot on the heels of this morning’s news that ABC had canceled Lambert’s live performance on “Good Morning America,” which had been scheduled for tomorrow, following the fallout from his sexually-charged performance at the AMAs.

An e-mail reportedly sent out to ABC’s database of interested concert-goers stated, “It is not necessary to come to the theatre because it will be closed.”

“Given Adam Lambert’s controversial live performance on the AMAs we were concerned about airing a similar concert so early in the morning,” an ABC News spokesperson said.

During his AMA show-closing performance of the title track from his newly released debut album, “For Your Entertainment,” Lambert groped a female dancer, kissed a male musician and shoved a male dancer’s face into his crotch, in a simulated sex act.

Although the latter move was edited out of the West Coast airing of the awards show, Lambert’s shocking activities drew more than 1,500 complaints to the network the next day.

Canceling Lambert’s “GMA” performance “wasn’t a hard decision,” an insider said. “That performance wasn’t appropriate for morning TV and no one wanted to take the chance that we’d see it again.”

Speaking as a guest on “On-Air with Ryan Seacrest” this morning, Lambert said that he felt that he didn’t owe anyone an apology for his AMA performance, adding that he respected ABC’s decision to pull the plug on his “GMA” appearance.

“They probably had a lot of pressure coming at them from certain people who weren’t happy about it. I respect their decision,” Lambert told Seacrest. “I don’t necessarily agree with it, but they need to do what they need to do.”
