Lambert on CBS: I’m not sorry for AMA show

Adam Lambert says he understands the outrage over his racy performance at the AMAs, which prompted ABC to cancel his “GMA” show this morning.

The “American Idol” contestant was singing instead on CBS’ “The Early Show.”

He said he understood why people would have been upset at his sexually charged AMA show, where he kissed another man and simulated oral sex with a back-up dancer, but stopped short of apologizing.

“I’m a performer, not a baby-sitter,” he said on “The Early Show.”

He also thinks that it’s because he’s a gay male that it because such a controversy. He insists it wasn’t a planned part of the choreography and he was just caught up in the moment.

“If it had been a female performer doing those things up on the stage I don’t think there would be nearly as much outrage.”

Madonna and Britney Spears grabbed headlines in 2003 when they shared a kiss on stage at the VMAs.

When asked by a fan via web cam how he felt during his first “American Idol” performance in front of the judges, Lambert said, “I remember I sang Michal Jackson’s “Black and White,” and it kind of felt how I felt before the AMAs the other night. I had so much adrenaline, I almost over sang it.”

Adam Lambert is friends with Robin Williams’ daughter, strangely enough. “We have some mutual friends and we met up one night at a dinner,” Lambert said, after the Williams interview. And we were just promised that Lambert would *actually* sing after the next commercial break.

Lambert’s finally performing… He’s starting with the uber-tame “What do you want from me?” No super sexy dance moves expected here.

“The Early Show” went to commerical before the end of the song — but only because it was a really long song. Lambert kept it clean this morning, crooning into his mic and right into the camera.
