DENVER — Brandon Jacobs was fuming last night, charging that he and his teammates didn’t play hard in last night’s critical 26-6 loss to the Broncos at Invesco Field.
Jacobs didn’t help the cause as he was completely shut down and shut out. He gained 27 yards on 11 carries (2.5 yards per carry), but it didn’t seem he had much help up front.
“I’m angry for the simple reason, it doesn’t bother me that my numbers weren’t there,” Jacobs said. “I just want to win football games. We didn’t give us ourselves a chance. We gave the game away. We went out, and we didn’t play hard and they took it.”
Missing Ahmad Bradshaw, the anemic Giants rushed for 57 yards, the lowest team total since 2006, and they put more fans to sleep last night than tryptophan.
DJ Ware didn’t pick up the slack, with a huge fumble and left early with a concussion.
The frustration of Jacobs, once part of the celebrated Earth, Wind and Fire ground attack, was evident late last night in the Mile High City.
“We didn’t want it bad enough, they wanted it more, and they came out and outplayed us,” Jacobs said.
Jacobs hasn’t enjoyed much of a season. Asked about how Jacobs is playing, coach Tom Coughlin said, “It’s about our team, not any individual.”
Quarterback Eli Manning wouldn’t blame Jacobs either.
“Brandon’s doing everything he could do,” Manning said. “He’s running hard. We have to find a way to stay in games and convert on third down so we can run the ball more often. We weren’t on the field very long. We have to find ways to get him the ball and establish the running game.”
Coughlin said he is dumbfounded why the Giants couldn’t get a ground attack going — which is something he thought was very possible during their meetings.
“We were off track, never got into any rhythm where we could run the ball and when we did we weren’t very successful with it,” Coughlin said. “That’s where football starts. Stopping the run and running the ball.”
