GOV: DEM HUDDLE IS NO THREAT

Gov. Paterson yesterday waved off a warning from powerful labor leaders and Democratic Party honchos who met privately and gave the governor until October to do better before they jump ship.

“No one there said anything like that to me,” Paterson said in Brooklyn yesterday, when asked about the Tuesday meeting upstate in Kingston.

“And there were people who I know who were in the meeting that didn’t hear it that way.”

Many of the state’s movers and shakers in Democratic politics said they worry that Rudy Giuliani could beat Paterson in a race next year, thanks to the governor’s record-setting low popularity numbers.

The strongest potential primary challenge to Paterson right now is Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, who has denied he’s running for anything other than re-election.
