Bam-bash pol cashes in on ‘Lie!’

WASHINGTON — A congressman’s angry outburst of “You lie!” at President Obama has brought him a mountain of cash, as more than $700,000 poured into the coffers of Rep. Joe Wilson of South Carolina.

The campaign cash, revealed by the House Republican Campaign Committee, is less than the $875,000 raised by Wilson’s Democratic opponent, Rob Miller. The Dem collected big bucks from donors infuriated by Wilson’s outburst during Obama’s televised address to Congress Wednesday night.

Both amounts are stunning money hauls in a 24-hour period for any House candidate, and certainly one who was hardly known outside his Hilton Head district before this week.

Wilson issued a video fund-raising appeal late Thursday to cash in on the controversy, after Democratic fund-raising on Web sites such as ActBlue climbed throughout the day.

Meanwhile, Democratic lawmakers are threatening to bring up a resolution to admonish Wilson for violating House rules on decorum, after Republican leaders failed to persuade Wilson to apologize on the House floor.
