Williamses double up for title

As good as Venus and Serena Williams are individually, they may be even better together.

The sisters claimed their 10th Grand Slam doubles title yesterday with a dominating 6-2, 6-2 win over the top-seeded pair of Liezel Huber and Cara Black. It was their second U.S. Open doubles championship, and it came a decade after their first back in 1999.

“Well, our life has been together, so it’s great to be able to play with each other,” Venus said. “It’s really not possible to get a better partner than Serena. I hope she feels the same about me.

“It’s our decade anniversary of winning 10 years ago . . . (it’s a) really exciting moment for us.”

After the bizarre ending to her semifinal singles match against eventual champion Kim Clijsters Saturday night, when she was given a point penalty on match point for berating a lines judge, Serena was happy to just have a chance to get back on the court again — let alone win a title.

“I felt amazing (to be back on the court), because everyone was saying, ‘Go Serena.’ . . . That made me feel really good,” she said. “I guess (the fans) can see how much I enjoy the sport, and how much I always want to do the best I can when I’m out there.”
