Sorry, Trekkers, but you won’t be seeing the elder Spock back in action for “Star Trek 2,” the sequel to J.J. Abrams’ blockbuster 2009 reboot. Leonard Nimoy has announced his retirement from acting, IGN reported Tuesday.
In an interview with The Toronto Sun, the 79-year-old Nimoy said that he is now leaving acting behind for good, having recently wrapped his role on “Fringe.” Nimoy added that he will not reprise his role as Spock Prime in the next Trek movie.
“I want to get off the stage. Also, I don’t think it would be fair to Zachary Quinto,” Nimoy said of his successor in the role of the USS Enterprise’s Vulcan first officer. “He’s a terrific actor, he looks the part, and it’s time to give him some space. And I’m very flattered the character will continue.”
Nimoy added that his retirement also means he’ll be curtailing his public appearances at conventions and fan events.
