Vendor ‘pedals’ shakes

These cyclists are juicing.

Smoothies made at an eco-friendly food truck planned for Central Park are going to be blended by pedal power.

“They’re $5 — but you get $1 off if you do the pedaling yourself,” owner Sean Meenan said.

Meenan, who also owns the Fort Greene restaurant Habana Outpost, won a Parks Department contract for a lucrative spot directly across the street from the Museum of Natural History.

With a gas tank filled with cooking oil, solar panels on the roof, and the bicycle blender, Meenan says he hopes his truck will be the city’s greenest.

“When we open this summer, I’m hoping to have some kind of wind-power element working on top of the truck as well,” he said.

At Habana Outpost, where bicycle blenders are already in use, Meenan says about half the customers do their own pedaling.

“You’ll burn a few calories,” he said, “but not too many.”

All the truck’s paper products and utensils will be made from either recycled materials or sugarcane, and the benches Meenan will put outside are made from a compound of milk crates and sawdust.
