The six best and worst styles from the MTV Movie Awards

Fashion-wise and in general, the MTV Movie Awards couldn’t be more casual (this is MTV, after all, where the idol is Snooki and not, say, Tilda Swinton), so it was a surprise when so many stars showed up dressed to impress. Here are the fashion happenings of Sunday night’s red carpet, starting with the greatest:

Grumpy Cat in the hat!

The irresistible Grumpy Cat was topped with Pharrell’s equally famous Mountie hat, and it’s clearly the best thing that’s ever happened on a red carpet. Period.

She’s back

The second best thing is Lupita Nyong’o’s triumphant return to looking better than everyone else. Lancôme’s newest ambassador rocked a slightly longer ’do and wore gunmetal eye shadow that worked perfectly with her Technicolor paillette-sequined Chanel dress.

Iggy Azalea’s style is blossoming

The singer-rapper, fresh off a turn as fashion plate Cher in the gif-able “Clueless”-inspired “Fancy” video, went for an even higher fashion standard in head-to-toe John Galliano, complete with towering platforms.

Shailene Woodley looks spectacular, now

After weeks of sporting weirdly long-looking ensembles, the hippie actress finally looked like the green goddess she is in this army Balmain dress — short, pleated and flattering to her lengthy legs.

The flamboyant rapper eschewed her signature shocking pink wigs and neon leggings for a more modest look — a simple black dress accessorized with gold accents. Though she is no stranger to a beauty overhaul, it never fails to impress when Her Minajesty shows a little restraint.

Rihanna’s bedtime story

The singer got the casual memo and went with it. Besides, if you partied as hardy as Badgalriri, you would probably get day and night mixed up, too.

Alas, here are the night’s worst:

Snooki, stop

We want to say the realty star cleans up nicely — but she just doesn’t. We miss the “Jersey Shore” days. There was a certain honesty in that stiff, towering bouffant.

Ellie Goulding, this is just boring

I want party, not b.s.

And while we’re at it, Jessica Alba looked boring, too

But since she’s technically still an actress — of the “TRL” generation, at that — this turn down the red carpet in a white bandeau top and full yellow skirt makes more sense than 99 percent of her countless others.

One-sleeved, ruched Versace is not the most flattering look, especially in this horrendous shade of pastel blue against her milky white skin.

Pia Mia Perez . . . mamma mia!

Or rather, Rosie the Riveter, if she were a tasteless millennial.
