Weird But True

Old mugshot leads to selfie thief’s arrest

A Harlem thief who snapped a selfie with an iPhone he had stolen was busted Monday after cops found his face in a mugshot database, law enforcement sources told The Post on Thursday.

Detectives discovered the vanity shots of Jazeke Samuels, 20, in the victim’s photo-sharing Apple iCloud account that stores pictures, video and music.

The first photo showed Samuels wearing a black Lacoste hoodie and posing in front of a vehicle while flashing gang signs.

The other is a close-up of Samuels wearing the Lacoste sweatshirt while sporting a pair of white earbuds.

Investigators ran a computer check, comparing the photos to mugshots of those who committed similar crimes in upper Manhattan, sources said.

Samuels, who has a previous robbery arrest, was easily picked out by investigators and arrested in a Monday morning raid at his Harlem apartment, sources said.

He was charged with criminal possession of stolen property and released without bail at his arraignment in Manhattan Criminal Court.

Samuels allegedly snatched the iPhone from an 18-year-old man on Seventh Avenue near West 117th Street around 8:30 p.m. on Sept. 24.

He also committed a series of attempted cell-phone robberies in which he pretended to have a gun, cops said.
