ALBANY — Most New Yorkers oppose former Gov. David Paterson’s 11th-hour deal with a Wisconsin Indian tribe for a Catskills casino.
Eighty-one percent of voters oppose the casino pact signed with the Stockbridge-Munsee Band of Mohicans, according to a statewide poll conducted for a coalition of horse-track “racinos.”
“When you have a stroke-of-midnight, under-the-table deal like that to hand over a full-scale casino to an out-of-state Indian tribe, it’s not surprising that the public thinks it was a bad idea,” Saratoga Gaming & Raceway investor James Featherstonehaugh said.
