Super Bowl XLV between Green Bay and Pittsburgh sets all-time viewing record

The Green Bay Packers aren’t the only ones who scored big on Sunday night.

Super Bowl XLV was ratings gold for Fox as the game shattered a new record for the most-watched TV broadcast in American history.

The Packers 31-25 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers at Cowboys Stadium drew a whopping 111 million viewers — topping last year’s Super Bowl by almost 5 million, according to data released today by Fox.

“We’re excited about the fan reaction from [Sunday] night and the incredible game they were able to see,” said NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.

The game also set a new mark for total viewership of any program in US history with 162.9 million people watching — 9.5 more than the record set a year ago, Fox said.

Last year, 106.5 million watched the New Orleans Saints defeat the Indianapolis Colts on CBS, surpassing the 106 million who tuned in to the 1983 finale of “M*A*S*H.”

“The airing of Super Bowl XLV goes down as Fox’s most-watched night of prime time ever, as well as Fox’s highest-rated night ever among adults 18 to 49. It’s also the most-watched night on any network in at least 20 years,” Fox said in a statement.

A ratings point is a percentage of television households that watched the program.

This year’s game recorded a 59.7 overnight rating in the Pittsburgh and Milwaukee markets, tied for the second-highest rating in a single market in Super Bowl history behind the 63 in Chicago for Super Bowl XX in 1986.

Fox is owned by News Corp., which also owns The Post.
