2 in-flight jet scares

Two passenger planes were forced to make emergency landings yesterday because of security scares, authorities said.

A Delta Air Lines jet from Detroit to San Diego was diverted to Albuquerque, NM, at around 10 a.m. after a note with the word “bomb” written on it was allegedly found in one of the plane’s bathrooms.

The plane landed and was searched, but authorities said “no suspicious devices” were found aboard. No one was arrested.

Then, at around 1:30 p.m., a Continental Airlines flight from Houston to Chicago was diverted to St. Louis after officials said an “unruly” passenger tried to open a plane door mid-air.

The irritated flier, identified only as a 34-year-old Illinois man, stood up 20 minutes after takeoff and said he had to get off the plane. No charges were filed.

Aviation experts said it would have been impossible to open the door because of cabin pressure.
