‘Blatant’ liar Tannenbaum refutes charge by Revis’ agents

CORTLAND — The Darrelle Revis contract impasse has reached its most acrimonious point yet, leaving you to wonder if the two sides ever will reach an agreement.

Jets owner Woody Johnson said in a radio interview yesterday that he and Rex Ryan offered to attend the Friday meeting with Revis’ representatives and Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum, but were “rebuffed.”

Moments after the conclusion of the Johnson interview, Neil Schwartz, one of Revis’ agents, called The Post and said that was “a blatant lie.”

ACCUSCORE: JETS START 0-3 WITHOUT REVIS

This is what Johnson said in the interview on 1050 ESPN Radio when asked if he would talk to Revis himself: “Absolutely. I’ve agreed to do that. I’ve told Darrelle I’d do that. We asked, through his agents, that I would and Rex would have gone to that meeting if that was something Darrelle wanted.

“We were rebuffed on that. [Revis’ agents] thought it was better that we meet and talk about this so-called new proposal without me or Rex present.”

When Schwartz heard those words, he called The Post and lashed out.

“Mike never, ever, ever, ever offered Mr. Johnson to come to that meeting,” Schwartz said. “That’s a blatant lie that Mr. Johnson was offered to come to that meeting — a blatant lie. That was never, ever, ever offered.

“I would meet with Mr. Johnson anywhere, any place, any time,” Schwartz went on. “I’d love to talk to Mr. Johnson, but I don’t have his cell number. Why would I have insisted to Mike that that proposal go to Mr. Johnson and not want him in the meeting?

“I wanted Mr. Johnson’s input so I could go through his concerns. I felt we addressed all of his concerns in that proposal so we could get a deal done.”

Tannenbaum insisted to The Post last night that he absolutely offered to bring Johnson to the meeting.

“[Schwartz] came to me and said they wanted to set up a meeting, that they had some new things to go over,” Tannenbaum said. “I asked if they wanted me to bring Woody so he could meet with Darrelle. [Schwartz] said, ‘No, this is more of a technical issue so it would be better if just you and Ari [Nissim, Jets director of football administration] came.

“The offer still stands that Woody will meet with Darrelle if they want.”

In the radio interview, Johnson stuck with the pessimistic thoughts he expressed when speaking to reporters on Monday, calling the chasm between the Jets and Revis “insurmountable” at the moment.

“I feel that he will not be on the New York Jets team this year based on what I know this day and this moment,” Johnson said. “That could change. I hope it does change.”

The acrimony between the two sides has heightened in recent days.

The Jets are on record insisting that they’ve offered “fully guaranteed money” to Revis in a contract extension.

Sources in the Revis camp insist that there hasn’t been a dime of fully guaranteed signing bonus money offered in any of the proposals.
