VOTE: Best & worst Subway Series pitchers

When the Mets and Yankees meet Friday night in The Bronx, it will mark the 15th summer of the Subway Series. To commemorate the occasion, the Post’s baseball experts will be handing out awards from across the 78 regular-season games between the two franchises.

This award will be for the best and worst pitchers in Subway Series history.

Subway Cy Young Nominees

Oliver Perez, Mets (4-0, 1.50 ERA, 0.80 WHIP over 30 IP across five games)

John Franco, Mets (2-0, 1.17 ERA, 1.17 WHIP over 7 2/3 IP across 10 games)

Ramiro Mendoza, Yankees (3-1, 2.36 ERA, 0.89 WHIP over 19 IP across 11 games)

Mike Stanton, Yankees (1-0, 1.36 ERA, 0.95 WHIP over 13 1/3 IP across 14 games)

Winner

Oliver Perez may have been a colossal bust for the Mets, but he was remarkable against the Yankees in Subway Series action. He won each of his four starts against the Yankees, going at least seven innings and allowing two runs or less in all of them. In his two best performances, Perez went 7 1/3 shutout innings at Yankee Stadium on June 15, 2007, striking out six and walking three, and allowed one run on three hits in seven innings on June 29, 2008, striking out eight and walking none.

Subway Anti-Cy Young Nominees

Johan Santana, Mets (2-3, 6.23 ERA, 1.52 WHIP over 30 IP across five starts)

Bobby Jones, Mets (0-3, 6.27 ERA, 1.23 WHIP over 18 2/3 IP across three starts)

Roger Clemens, Yankees (2-3, 4.73 ERA, 1.33 WHIP in 32 1/3 IP across five starts)

Randy Johnson, Yankees (0-2, 8.14 ERA, 1.69 WHIP in 24 1/3 IP across four starts)

Winner

After two pedestrian starts against the Mets in 2005, his first season in pinstripes, Randy Johnson had two horrible outings against the Mets in Subway Series play in ’06. He allowed six runs on eight hits in five innings at Shea Stadium on May 19, before allowing eight runs on eight hits in six innings at Yankee Stadium on July 1.
