A Florida man charged with leading a $1 million-a-year drug distribution ring in New York City and Long Island has been declared a danger to the community.
US District Judge Joanna Seybert made the ruling Wednesday at an arraignment for 48-year-old Gregory Kovar of Miami Beach, Newsday reports. He was ordered held without bail after pleading not guilty in Central Islip to heading a ring that distributed oxycodone, cocaine and steroids in New York.
Court documents say the main drugs that his ring distributed were various types of supposed anabolic steroids.
Kovar moved to Florida after a 2007 conviction for distributing steroids in Queens. He served about 90 days on that conviction.
A prosecutor described him as a “career drug dealer.”
Kovar’s attorney, Kenneth Schreiber, declined to comment.
