Naz principal: Jamison not fired as hoops coach

Todd Jamison is still the varsity boys basketball at Nazareth.

Principal Providencia Quiles said contrary to published reports no one has been fired as of yet after Jamison and athletic director Rochelle Murphy got into a heated altercation at the Brooklyn school on Tuesday.

“I just got back [from vacation] and I am investigating the issue right now,” Quiles told The Post. … “Coach Todd has a distinguished and very long career with Nazareth.”

Jamison, who has been at Nazareth for 17 years, and Murphy, the AD since 2008, got into an argument that escalated into a physical confrontation, reportedly over his knowledge of the whereabouts of Nigerian Akilo Samson Oluwole, a rising junior and future Nazareth basketball player. Jamison declined comment and Murphy didn’t return phone messages.

“Everything needs to be discussed thoroughly,” Quiles said. “That’s where I am right now.”

Jamison is coming off his most successful season as coach. The Kingsmen went undefeated in the CHSAA Class B division and won the school’s first city title since 1989. They added the Catholic state crown as well. Nazareth represented the league in the state Federation Class B tournament in Albany along with its nationally ranked girls basketball team.

Jamison was also an integral part of the campaign to help Nazareth reach its financial needs to keep the school open after it was announced in February it was closing its doors.

“I just wanted to make it known that I’m the one who has the power to fire anybody,” Quiles said. “And I haven’t fired anybody. … I don’t want anyone’s reputations to be tarnished in that way knowing that we haven’t done our due diligence yet.”
