Trucker hopes to share a cup of joe

The trucker whose rig was slammed by an allegedly drugged Kerry Kennedy called her apology to him yesterday “very heartwarming’’ — and said he’d like to get together with her for coffee and pie.

“It’s very heartwarming that she said that, and it’s very nice. It redeems her, definitely,’’ said driver Rocco Scuiletti, who told The Post Monday that Kennedy appeared to “nod off’ and wake up as she tore down Interstate 684 in her Lexus and smashed into his truck.

“Everybody makes the wrong choices sometimes. I’m sure it wasn’t intentional,’’ he said.

Scuiletti, who is divorced, added that he’d like to have a peace summit with Kennedy.

“Believe it or not, I’m sure we have more in common than she thinks,’’ he said. “I’m sure she knows that as a truck driver, it’s a challenge every day — as far apart from her lifestyle as I am.

“Sometimes, it’s good for people from two different sides of the tracks to meet.”

Scuiletti yesterday talked to cops and state officials to recount his version of the incident. The trucker — who didn’t report the accident — said he was warned that he may get a ticket for leaving the scene.

He was also suspended for five days by the trucking company he works for. He said he hopes his boss will read Kennedy’s apology to him and go easier on him.

“Nothing good has come out of this for me,” Scuiletti said. “But I covered all my bases. If someone said, ‘I saw the truck on the highway . . .’ well, my story’s out there.”
