This amazing photo — taken from a jet flying at 10,000 feet — displays the incredible power of the thunderstorms that blasted the metropolitan area yesterday.
It was shot by ex-Giants linebacker Dhani Jones, who had just taken off from La Guardia Airport on a flight to Detroit and tweeted, “Check out what’s coming at NYC.’’
“Through all my travels around the globe, I have always remained in awe of the power of Mother Nature,’’ he later told his assistant, Anne Arnsperger.

When he took the picture, the storm was over Suffolk County.
The city, too, was hit by thunder and lightning, hail and torrential rain.
A total of 1.7 inches of rain was recorded at Central Park, and 1-inch hailstones covered the ground at Broadway and Spring Street.
A 21-year-old woman was struck by lightning near Queens College.
She was taken to New York Hospital Queens, where officials said she did not appear to have life-threatening injuries.
Thankfully, the wild weather marked the beginning of the end of the latest heat wave.
Before the storm, La Guardia had hit a record 101 degrees. Afterward, it dropped to 74. The high today is expected to be in the relatively refreshing 80s.
Con Ed early today reported about 1,500 customers without power around the city. Staten Island and Queens were hardest hit with about 500 each. Some 300 Brooklyn customers were in the same boat.
