Mitt aide Brit flap

WASHINGTON — Mitt Romney arrived in London yesterday for the start of an overseas tour including a visit to the Olympic Games — but ended up in a dust-up over an aide’s alleged reference to the United States’ and Britain’s “Anglo-Saxon heritage.”

“We are part of an Anglo-Saxon heritage, and he feels that the special relationship is special,” the Daily Telegraph reported a Romney adviser as saying, referring to US-British ties.

The reported remark, which Team Romney denied, comes a day after Romney slammed President Obama’s foreign policy at a speech in Reno, Nev.

Vice President Joe Biden blasted the remark as “just another feeble attempt by the Romney campaign to score political points at the expense of this critical partnership.”

“If anyone said that, they weren’t reflecting the views of Governor Romney or anyone inside the campaign,” said a Romney spokeswoman.

Meanwhile, Obama tried to shore up support with black voters with a speech before the National Urban League in New Orleans last night, when he announced the creation of a new office to help black students preparing for high school and college.
