Bloomberg or Guns: Who Needs More Control?

The Issue: Mayor Bloomberg’s belief that cops should actively support demands for more gun control.

***

Mayor Bloomberg thinks cops should strike unless we institute stricter gun laws (“Bloomberg’s Gun-Control Idea,” July 24).

James Holmes shot 70 people in the 90 seconds it took for cops to respond.

Is Bloomberg insinuating that law-abiding citizens are to sit on their hands and wait for the government to come help? How did that work out in Aurora, Colo., which has a law banning concealed carry?

No law is going to stop a cold, calculated killer. Police have nothing to fear from their fellow law-abiding citizens — killers, on the other hand, do.Justin Sho

Bloomberg does not understand that cops may not feel the same way he does about gun control.

After all, cops come from amongst the population, and right now the population tilts against more gun control.

While police work is very dangerous, our police are armed and trained to deal with this problem and accept it as one of the dangers of the job.

The incident in Aurora is an object lesson about dangers to the innocent public, not dangers to the police.

The movie-going public want to go home to their families, as the mayor put it, as much as those in police work.

But what can they do when it hits the fan? The public can only call 911.

How can the very same person be so right about guns and yet be so wrong about soda?

Is Bloomberg a genius or an idiot?

Mr. Mayor, you need to come off your throne.

Cops are not politicians; they take an oath to uphold the law, which includes the Constitution.

Laws only affect law-abiding people. We criminalized heroin and cocaine, and the potency of these illicit drugs went up and the price went down.

Banning guns, high-capacity magazines or certain bullets is a feel-good joke.

When we start enforcing current laws and putting people in jail, there may be no need for Bloomberg’s rhetoric.

Normally, I respect Bloomberg. But now that he is again calling for a gun ban, that respect is gone.

In states that have allowed individuals to carry a concealed weapon with proper background checks, the crime rate has gone down.

If guns are made illegal, as they have been in England, only criminals will have them.

I would respect Bloomberg, liberal politicians and the Hollywood elite who want to prevent citizens from owning guns more if they agreed to refrain from using armed bodyguards to protect themselves and their families.

After all, their lives aren’t any more valuable than those of average Americans who can’t afford to hire armed security details for protection. Lead by example, people.Jim Bitros

While bodies are dropping throughout New York City, Bloomberg is calling for gun control on a national level.

How about controlling the guns in The Bronx and forget about interjecting yourself into the presidential campaign?

Lest we forget, Bloomberg’s the same guy who wants to limit soda while actively endorsing Nathan’s annual hot-dog-eating contest.

Bloomberg continues his assault on the Second Amendment, this time using the sad events in Colorado as an excuse.

If the deranged and determined cannot acquire guns legally, they will do so illegally.

Had the Colorado miscreant instead made use of the incendiary devices he was fond of fashioning, would that have led to a less horrific result?
