Ohio suspect who confessed girlfriend’s murder to NY priest wants to go back and face justice

The Ohio murder suspect who confessed to a shocked Manhattan priest that he had bludgeoned his girlfriend in Columbus has signed an extradition waiver that allows the Midwest authorities to come get him.

“We will present the case to the grand jury for indictment,” Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O’Brien told The Post. “If the grand jury indicts him, then he’ll be brought back on the indictment. It should take 10 days or less.”

“Yes, your honor,” Jonathan Smith, 48, quietly told a Manhattan judge yesterday when asked if he would sign the waiver.

“I want to go back to Ohio!” Smith insisted at his arraignment last night.

“I turned myself in, your honor,” he yelled as he was led out. “I’m going. I’m going back.”

The extradition waiver lets Ohio cops pick him up at their convenience. Until then, he will be held without bail in New York.
