Rye Playland’s future looks bleak as park continues to lose money: report

It looks like the roller coaster ride for Rye Playland could be coming to an end.

According to Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino, losing $3 to $5 million a year on the park may no longer be an option, WCBS/Channel 2 reported.

The most recent numbers indicate the losses will continue this summer.

According to data reported to the County Board of Legislators from the park’s department, July’s attendance was off by about 5 percent.

The board rejected Astorino’s veto of a children’s museum at Playland, which Astorino shot down due to the park’s uncertain future.

Proposals for the future of Playland have been whittled down from about a dozen to three by a park panel.

A decision on the park’s future is expected by the end of the season.
