Dog gone

It really is dog-eat-dog out there in Hollywood.

Brigitte, the cute French bulldog who played Pritchett Family pooch Stella on “Modern Family,” has been axed from the show after two seasons and replaced by her younger understudy, Beatrice.

Call it the canine version of “All About Eve.”

Brigitte was apparently given her walking papers by Good Dog Animals, the company that supplied her to ABC, according to tmz.com.

There was no reason given as to why Good Dog told Brigitte to go fetch another talent agency.

Good Dog has replaced Brigitte with Beatrice, another French bulldog, who’ll step into the role of Stella, Jay’s (Ed O’Neill) prized possession, when the show kicks off its fourth season this fall.

As The Post reported last February, Beatrice was, in fact, Brigitte’s understudy on the “Modern Family” set — but had never been used on the show, since Brigitte seemed to hit all her marks (which basically required her to stare straight ahead).

Now Beatrice will get her big shot after knocking off her competition.

The human cast members of “Modern Family” have now returned to work after receiving big pay raises.

Officials at ABC and Good Dog Animals did not respond to requests for comment yesterday.
