SHOOTING WITH SHAVAR: Newkirk, SCAN sitting on ‘the throne’ after Fab 48 title

Over the last month, The Post brought you into the world of Cardinal Hayes/Team SCAN point guard Shavar Newkirk as he travels from Reading, Pa., to Springfield Mass., Augusta, Ga. and Las Vegas during the live recruiting period. One of the city’s top floor generals for nationally ranked Team SCAN, the 5-foot-11 Newkirk just led SCAN to the Fab 48 title. This is entry No. 4 of 4, as told to The Post’s Zach Braziller.

We just got back from Las Vegas. I’m just feeling great about this win. It was a tough game in the championship, but we pulled it out [against Team Thad]. It was an up-and-down game, something we like to do.

I’m tired. My body is worn down from the season. I’ll need a few days of rest until I get back into the gym.

Since we were mad about losing at Peach Jam, we went into Vegas with a mindset of winning the ‘chip and finishing the season No. 1. Everybody was focused on winning. We didn’t have time to party until after [the tournament]. Even after we won and we had time to party, we couldn’t because we were so tired.

My teammates went out on the [Las Vegas] Strip, but I was tired. I slept. It was a business trip. Now I can rest now that the season is over. During the season there are no fun and games.

We had to play in a super pool. That was kind of hard. We played Team Breakdown, GAME Elite 16U and Team Superstar 16. Since we are a highly-ranked team, a lot of teams came out to beat us. We stayed in our team structure and won.

It feels good. Nobody can talk to me or my teammates about who we played, how we’re No. 1. We’re sitting on the throne right now.

I just played my game. The way I play, nobody can stop me. I just attacked the basket, made my free throws, hit my pull-up jump shot. I showed that I’m one of the top point guards in the country.

I didn’t want to end the season on a bad note. I wanted to end it on a good note. We won Fab 48 and finished No. 1, as I predicted. During this month of basketball we became close and everybody got comfortable with each other.

[I’ll always remember] winning the championship and seeing the opponents sad. Me and my team had that feeling last year; we didn’t want to have it again. This means we can talk junk to other people for another six months.

I want to [thank] my father, my coach [Terrence] Munch Williams, Elvin Blount for promoting me and my team. He goes behind closed doors, speaking up for me and telling [college coaches] they should be watching my game.

This is Shavar Newkirk’s final diary entry
