Plaxico owes $59,000 in New York back taxes: report

Plaxico Burress owes more than $59,000 in back New York state taxes from his Super Bowl-winning season with the Giants, according to published reports.

The unemployed wide receiver has to cough up $59,241 to make good on an Empire State lien for earnings made in 2007 while he was with the Giants, TMZ reported. Burress had a base salary that season of $3.295 million.

That 2007 campaign might have been Burress’ career apex, catching 70 passes for 1,025 yards in the regular season. Then Burress left his mark on New York sports history by catching the game-winning touchdown in the Giants’ 17-14 Super Bowl XLII triumph over the then-undefeated New England Patriots.

But Burress’ career hasn’t been the same since he shot himself in November, 2008 and went to prison for a weapons possession.

The 34-year-old played for the Jets last season, his first since getting out of prison. He’s now a free agent.
