The Issue: Swimmer Michael Phelps’ 22 medals, including 18 gold in three Olympic Games.

As an avid fitness swimmer, I have long marveled at Michael Phelps (“America’s Greatest Olympian Leaves With His 18th Gold,” Aug. 5).

He has elevated and changed the sport of swimming.

He is the best swimmer in the world and the most decorated.

I predict he will continue to inspire all swimmers.

Last Saturday, Phelps won his 18th gold medal, and he will now retire from competition.

This marks the end of an era in American swimming.

On Nov. 6, Americans will go to the polls and elect Mitt Romney president, marking the “end of an error” in American politics.

Now that Phelps has won his 22nd Olympic medal, will President Obama call him to say, “You didn’t ‘win’ that”?

No taxes should be paid on Olympic medals.

We should just be proud of our athletes for representing us so well and appreciate the great sacrifices they have made to do so.

Render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s. The medals belong to the athletes.

I wonder how long it will be before Obama demands that the Olympians “share the wealth”?

Will he claim that it is the people who built those racetracks who should be honored and not the runners?

God bless America, and God bless our Olympians.

We are proud of you.
