Kid stuff

Today

JAM SESSION: Get August off to a bouncin’ start at the Jam on Dumbo Summer Family Music Festival, where kids can rock out to awesome Brooklyn bands AudraRox, Jeff Newell’s New Trad Trio and Shine & the Moonbeams, then check out Miss Saturn’s hula-hooping act, make their mark on a graffiti mural and more. Noon to 4 p.m., free. Superfine, 126 Front St., at Pearl Street, Brooklyn; 718-243-9005, jamondumbo.com

DRAGON ROLL: ’Tis the season (the fifth month of the Chinese calendar, that is) for dragon boats, and Flushing Meadows-Corona Park’s Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival is our fave. Why? Because it features real dragon boat races on Meadow Lake, and live Chinese drumming! Expect some 180 dragon-shaped ships, plus music, martial arts and more. Today and tomorrow, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., free (bring cash for food). 111th Street, between Flushing Bay and Grand Central Parkway; 718-767-1776, hkdbf-ny.org

TOMORROW

BLOCK PARTY: If you’ve got a kid who loves Legos (and don’t they all?), the Bronx Zoo’s latest “safari” is a must: All the exotic animals on display, from lemurs to rhinos, are built from Legos. While there, try making your own Lego creatures, or opt for a non-Lego art project such as African animal hand puppets. Every day through Sept. 3; times vary, free with admission ($16.95 for adults, $11.95 for kids ages 3 to 12). 2300 Southern Blvd., at Fordham Road; 718-367-1010, bronxzoo.com

SWING, BATTA: Get to the Brooklyn Cyclones game early, because it’s Bat Day! That means the first 3,000 fans get a 30-inch wood bat, free, and can pose for pics or play catch on the field pregame (bring your own gloves and ball). Postgame, kids get to run the bases. 5 p.m., $8 to $17. MCU Park, 1904 Surf Ave., Coney Island; 718-449-8497, brooklyncyclones.com

STILL TO COME

WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE: You’ve read the books and seen the movie, but have you ever seen “The Jungle Book” performed by puppets? Didn’t think so! Fix that fast next weekend at Puppetworks in Brooklyn, where the classic Kipling tale is told with hand-carved marionettes. 12:30 and 2:30 p.m., $8; $7 for kids under 18. 338 Sixth Ave., at Fourth Street; 718-965-3391, puppetworks.org
