Charges in deadly Brooklyn hit-run

A BMW driver was charged yesterday in a fatal hit-and-run in Brooklyn, police said.

Javier Hernandez, 28, of Prospect Lefferts Gardens struck a 31-year-old man in his black 1995 sedan on 51st Street, near Third Avenue, in Sunset Park around 7 p.m. Monday.

Hernandez then allegedly ran through two red lights before colliding with a minivan at 48th Street, according to police sources.

EMS rushed the Albert Serrano, 31, of Sunset Park, who suffered severe head trauma, to Lutheran Hospital, where he later died.

Hernandez was taken into police custody at the scene. He is charged with several offenses, including criminally negligent homicide and manslaughter.

Law-enforcement sources said the suspect’s family arrived at the scene, and told cops their brother was going through a hard time. He had been living out of his car, they said.
