Golden girl

The results are in for the most popular Olympic athlete. And the winner is Gabby Douglas.

The gymnastics gold medalist has the most clicks on the NBC Olympics Web site. As of Sunday, her profile had more than 18 million views. And she was the runaway favorite — swimming phenom Michael Phelps’s profile came in second, with about 7 million clicks.

Douglas’ fellow female gymnasts rounded out the rest of the top-five list.

It seems that gymnastics is good business for the NBC site. Team USA’s gold-medal-winning gymnastics performance last Tuesday was also the Olympics’ most-watched live stream, with 1.47 million views, followed by Jamaican runner Usain Bolt’s gold-medal-winning 100-meter sprint, according to NBC.

The NBC Olympic Web site has already surpassed 1 billion page views, with three days to go until the closing ceremony.

According to the network, it took more than twice that amount of time for the site to get as many views for the Beijing games four years ago.

As for Douglas, who is the first American gymnast to win gold in both the team competition and the all-around event, we will be seeing a lot more of her.

Douglas’ agent, Sheryl Shade, told the Des Moines Register that she’d already been contacted by TV hosts Oprah Winfrey, David Letterman and Chelsea Handler, who are looking to book an appearance with the 16-year-old.
